Frequently Asked Questions

How long will it take to plan my kitchen or bath?

The shortest amount of time needed to plan your kitchen or bath is in the 1-2 week area, more typical planning time is 3-6 weeks, and it can also stretch beyond that. Length of time is determined by the complexity of the design, your own ability to make decisions, as well as the number of ideas you need to explore or how many changes you make to the plans.

If a deadline is looming, yet you'd like the luxury to do in-depth planning, there are a number of ways we can meet these deadlines - by meeting more frequently or putting in a preliminary order to the cabinet factory to guarantee a ship week, for example, buying time to work on details. Of course, it's never too soon to start planning.

Why should I pay a fee to have my kitchen designed, when there are other places offering their design services for free.

Kitchen Salespeople who are not compensated unless they sell cabinetry will sometimes offer their services for free as part of the sales process. Normally they are not going to be a Certified Kitchen Designer and will not draw up fully developed plans in compliance with the NKBA's kitchen planning standards.

The design work performed by our firm is of a high technical and creative level. Our design retainer is in direct proportion
to the numerous hours of time spent on developing professional drawings and the generous amount of time we allow for your design to fully, and naturally, develop. We never lose sight of the fact that you will be living with each decision you make, for many years.

Where do your services begin and end?

We're there from start to finish. In addition to designing your new kitchen or bath we are also dealers for some of the finest and most unique product offerings available in the St Louis area.
Working with your Architect, Interior Designer, Conctractor or Builder is no problem for us. We are willing
and competent
to handle all phases of your remodeling project.

Who will be doing the actual design work?

John Borcherding, CKD, CR exclusively. Only your designer, who
you have worked closely together with over time, can be
familiar with the many details you wish to incorporate into
your design. We do not hand off our design work to a
draftsperson with instructions on general concepts, leaving
important, costly, details to his/her discretion, only to check
back briefly now and then. John perform all of the design work,
from initial concepts, to writing your detailed order. John will
also perform a "technical review" of your entire order
(typically 10-15 pages) once again, to fine tune it, after the
factory has sent back an order acknowledgement.
John's personal involvement in allthe phases of your
project ensures that what you see on the plans is what you'll
get on final delivery of your cabinetry and fixtures.
